Regarding criticism of Biden, Sanders targeted Cornell West.
Sanders said, “This is a real question of whether democracy will continue to exist in the United States.”
West challenged the main progressive contender who supports President Joe Biden for the 2024 election. Then, Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) decided to support Cornel West as a third-party candidate for president.
West said, “Some politicians are so terrified of recapturing the White House from former President Donald Trump that they ‘don’t want to tell the whole truth.'” “[Biden] has created the best economy we can get. Is this all we can hope for? Don’t just lie to people for Biden’s victory,” West said in a clip aired on CNN on Sunday.
While Sanders agreed that it’s “certainly not” the best economy that can be created by America, he called on progressives to rally around Biden. “Where I disagree with my good friend Cornel West is that I believe we are at a very trying period where it is seriously debatable whether democracy can survive in the United States..I think we have got to bring the entire progressive community to defeat Trump or whatever Republican candidate there will be, [and] support Biden,” Sanders said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
Progressives should nevertheless continue to “demand that the Democratic Party, not just Biden, have the courage to take on corporate greed and the enormous level of income and wealth inequality that we see today,” Sanders continued
